Vol. 37 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Building Dispute.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what steps, if any, have been taken by his Department to bring the Dublin builders' and operatives' dispute to an end, and if any further action can possibly be taken by his Department to obtain an equitable and amicable settlement of this dispute, and thus relieve the ratepayers of Dublin City from the serious financial loss arising therefrom.

My Department has been in close touch with the parties to this dispute before and since the commencement of the stoppage of work. So far it has not been found possible to find a basis on which negotiations could be opened at a joint conference between the parties. The Department is prepared to hold a joint conference at any time if the parties are agreeable.
