Vol. 37 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Co. Kildare Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will instruct the Land Commission to acquire the lands, containing 57a. Or. 16p. in the townland of Rathcoffey, and 16a. 2r. Op. in the townland of Danielstown, Aylmer Estate, Co. Kildare, held by Mr. Charles Reilly, for division amongst the local congest-applicants, a list of whom (31 in number) was furnished to the Department on the 10th December, 1929.

The holding of Charles Reilly (Junior) containing 57a. Or. 10p. in the townland of Rathcoffey, South, 16a. 2r. 0p. in Danielstown, and 251a. 3r. 20p. in Clonagh, on the estate of John W. Aylmer, County Kildare, was retained by the Land Commission on the Appointed Day under Section 28 (6) of the Land Act 1923, and steps are being taken with a view to its resumption for the relief of congestion.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will now instruct the Land Commission to institute proceedings for the acquisition of the lands containing 121a. 3r. 24p., valuation £103 7s. Od., held by Mr. Thomas Berney, in the townland of Barrattstown, electoral division of Old Connell, Co. Kildare, for allotment amongst the local congests, a list of whom is being sent to the Department.

As the Deputy has already been informed the Land Commission do not propose at present to take any action regarding the lands of Barrattstown, the property of Thomas Berney, but the matter has been noted for reconsideration at a later date.

Does not the Parliamentary Secretary consider that this land could be dealt with now? I am sure that there is information in the Land Commission showing the congestion that exists along the edge of the bog, and that the division of this land would help the small holders whose land is at present covered with water.
