The particulars requested by the Deputy are not available, as the Land Commission returns are not kept according to electoral areas. Works which have been or are about to be undertaken out of funds provided by the Relief Schemes Vote in County Mayo consist of the repair and extension of bog and accommodation roads and the construction of drains and fences. The majority of these works were started under previous Relief Votes.
Can the Parliamentary Secretary give us any details for the County as a whole?
Yes, if that information is asked for.
I submit that that information was asked for in the case of County Donegal and it was not answered by the Parliamentary Secretary. We have our suspicions as to the way these schemes were carried out, and we have good reasons for that suspicion in the way in which they have been carried out in the different counties. Our suspicions are justified in view of the fact that the Parliamentary Secretary will not now answer the question put to him.
I have not been asked in any of the questions for a list of the works or schemes undertaken in any particular county.
Have I not asked in my question what schemes have been carried out in my constituency?
I have already answered the Deputy's question three times.
The point is that we are not at all satisfied as to the manner in which the work was carried out. After the great hurry with which this Vote was presented to us here in the House last December, when we were asked to pass this grant, we find that there has been scarcely anything done. When this grant was asked for, some Deputies here went so far as to suggest that we were trying to hold it up. That was not so. Now, after it has been passed four or five months, there has not been any work carried out in our county. We are not satisfied with what has been done, and we are anxious to know what is holding up the business.
