Vol. 37 No. 8

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Greystones Electricity Supply.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the Electricity Supply Board has not yet linked up the Greystones area with the Shannon power, and has not reduced the price of electricity in that area since the taking over of the local undertaking in May, 1930; further, that 11d. per unit is being charged to the consumers; and whether he will make representations to the Board to reduce immediately the price of electricity in the area to the Bray figure, and to expedite the linking up of that area with Shannon power.

Information of this kind is not within my knowledge and in the usual course should be sought directly from the Electricity Supply Board. Having regard, however, to the suggestion of unwarranted delay I have had inquiry made into the position and am informed that after the Greystones undertaking had been acquired by the Board it was found necessary to provide a special 38Kv Transformer Station in order to link up the undertaking with the Shannon Supply. Technical difficulties arose in respect of the site and type of this station of which a solution has now been found. The reconstruction of the network has been completed and the erection of the Transformer Station is in hand. It is anticipated that a supply of Shannon power can be made available in or about July next. I understand that the Board is about to publish a revision of the former charges.
