Vol. 37 No. 17

Written Answers. - Tralee Old Age Pension Claimant.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he will reconsider the case of John Flynn, 27 Mary Street, Tralee, who has been refused the old age pension on the grounds of no evidence as regards age; and if it is a fact that six responsible and respectable old people from Tralee, all over the age of 71, have made declarations before a Peace Commissioner regarding Flynn's age, declaring they have known him since childhood, and they believe he is over 70 years.

The appeal made by the claimant in this case against the decision of the Tralee Pension Committee of the 30th December, 1930, disallowing the claim was decided on the 18th March, 1931. The claim on appeal was disallowed in the absence of satisfactory evidence to show that the claimant had attained the statutory age for the receipt of an old age pension. Declaratious were received from several neighbours as to the claimant's age. They were not, however, considered sufficiently relevant and conclusive to warrant the allowance of a pension.
