Vol. 37 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Reclamation Schemes in Donegal.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state (a) the number of schemes of land reclamation it is proposed to carry out in County Donegal during the year 1931; (b) the districts in which such schemes will be undertaken; (c) the number of men who will be employed on each scheme; (d) the dates upon which work will be commenced; and (e) the amount which it is proposed to expend on each scheme.

The principal reclamation scheme in County Donegal is on the Rose O'Donnell Estate, in the townland of Tangaveane, where 1,698 acres of land have been acquired by the Land Commission for reclamation purposes and grants amounting to £1,720 have been expended. The question of sanctioning further expenditure on this scheme is at present under consideration, but no details are yet available of the number of men who may be employed, the date of commencement of further work, or the amount of further expenditure, if any. The work done hitherto in respect of reclamation in County Donegal has been mainly in the nature of providing demonstration plots, and such plots have been provided in the Rosses district, in Gweedore, and Bloody Foreland.
