Vol. 39 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Proposed Road Traffc Legislation.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that many owners of omnibuses plying in the Saorstát are not covered by insurance in respect to third party risks, and whether he proposes to take any action in this matter.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that in many passenger buses in the Saorstát the drivers are inexperienced and physically unfit for their task, and whether he proposes, in the interests of public safety, to take any steps to impose a test of fitness upon drivers of omnibuses.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that a great number of visitors are expected to arrive in the Saorstát in the spring and summer of 1932, and that a heavy strain will be placed on the road traffic facilities; and whether he proposes to take any steps to ensure that public vehicles, such as omnibuses, taxi-cabs and tramcars, are in a serviceable condition of repair before being allowed to carry passengers.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he can now fix a date for the introduction of the Traffic Bill, or if same will be introduced before the end of the present session.

In reply to the Deputy's four questions, I hope to be able to introduce the Road Traffic Bill before the end of the present session. The Bill will include provisions dealing with the matters referred to in the Deputy's questions.
