Vol. 39 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Improvement Schemes in Leix-Offaly.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state (1) the number of applications put forward to the Irish Land Commission for consideration of schemes of improvement to roads and lanes in the counties of (a) Leix, (b) Offaly, under the Relief Vote; (2) the number of such applications reported on by inspectors of his Department; (3) the number approved of; and (4) whether he would have certain proposed schemes reconsidered as being such as could be dealt with under the heading of Improvements, and in the ordinary way by the Commissioners.

It is not feasible to state the number of applications put forward for the carrying out of various works by the Land Commission in connection with the expenditure of funds provided by the Vote for the relief of unemployment and distress nor the number of such applications reported on by inspectors, but three works in County Offaly and three in County Leix were approved under relief schemes.

Any necessary improvement works on estates pending for sale will be carried out when the estates are being dealt with by the Land Commission out of moneys provided for improvement of estates.
