Vol. 39 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lewis Estate (Co. Galway).

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state what is the annuity fixed by the Land Commission on holding No. 57, Estate of J.A. Lewis, Co. Galway (S.1990), for which holding William J. Farnan was returned as tenant.

I must refer the Deputy to my reply to his question of the 13th May last on this matter, in which I gave him the information that he now asks for again.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state the last date on which James Dwyer, of Lowertown, Woodford, Co. Galway, refused to sign an agreement to purchase the holding from which his mother was evieted in 1889, being holding No. 57, Estate of J.A. Lewis, Co. Galway (S.1990); and further, if he will state what the reservations were regarding turbary.

As I informed the Deputy in reply to his question of 13th May last, Mr. James Dwyer has on more than one occasion reiterated his refusal to accept an allotment on the holding in question, on the terms proposed. In June of last year a Land Commission Inspector was instructed to ascertain finally whether he would be prepared to sign a purchase agreement in respect of the holding at the re-sale price of £190, with necessary reservations of turbary. Following on the Inspector's report of Mr. Dwyer's refusal, it was decided that there was no use in proceeding further with the resumption of the holding.
