Vol. 39 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sponsored Programmes From 2RN.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if it is correct that sponsored programmes have been broadcast from 2RN for which the music was supplied by gramophone records; and whether, in view of the unemployment now prevalent amongst musicians he will consider the advisability of insisting that in all such programmes the musical items should be supplied by native musicians and bands.

Gramophone records are used occasionally for sponsored programmes and to a limited extent in the ordinary station programmes. In view of the programme value of gramophone records, it is considered inadvisable to exclude them entirely, but having regard to the desirability of providing employment for artistes, their use is, in fact, being strictly limited.
