Vol. 39 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - The Railway Wages Board.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that grave discontent still continues with regard to the findings of the Railway Wages Board relative to the lower grade employees; and if he will state whether the representatives of the members of the N.U.R. agreed to and signed the findings in accordance with Section 55 (1) of the Railways Act, 1924; and further, if he will agree to receive a deputation of the Union.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. The second part does not arise because Section 55 (1) of the Railways Act, 1924, does not require the assent of the trade unions to findings of the Railway Wages Board established under agreements which the N.U.R. has signed. With regard to the third part no request that I should receive a deputation has been made to me by the N.U.R.
