Vol. 40 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - The Palmer Estate (Castlebar).

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state what is the cause of delay in vesting the tenants on the Sir R. Palmer Estate, situate at Glanisland, Castlebar; will the Minister state if any allowance will be made to the tenants on the above estate owing to the loss they have suffered due to undue delay in vesting.

Practically all the tenants on the Congested Districts Board (Palmer) Estate have had their holdings vested in them on resale by the Land Commission or have been given the benefits of Section 23 of the Land Act, 1931, which puts them on an annuity basis. There has been no avoidable delay on the part of the Land Commission in the resale of the estate.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state whether it was not a condition laid down in the sale of that portion of the Sir R. Palmer Estate situated in Glen-island, Castlebar, that the tenants would own the game and fishing rights, and will he state the exact position in this matter.

The sporting rights on the entire Palmer Estate are vested in the Land Commission as successors to the late Congested Districts Board. The resale of the holdings to the tenants is not conditional on the sporting rights being vested in them and these rights will be reserved accordingly.
