Vol. 40 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Confiscated Eggs.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state how many cases of eggs were confiscated from egg exporters from July 1st, 1931, to November 13th, 1931, under Section 4 of the Agricultural Produce (Eggs) Acts; what was the shipping value of the confiscated eggs, and how many egg exporters' licences were cancelled during the above period.

The number of packages of eggs which it has been found necessary to detain and subsequently forfeit under Section 4 (5) of the Agricultural Produce (Eggs) Act, 1924, during the period 1st July to 13th November, 1931, inclusive, is 600. The shipping value of the eggs calculated according to the market quotation for the various periods was £1,376 (approximately), but it must be understood that this was the value only if the eggs had been of the quality denoted by the grade mark on the packages. In reality, the eggs, being found defective, were of considerably less value.

The number of egg exporters the registration of whose premises was cancelled during the same period for contraventions of the Acts and of the regulations made thereunder was 12.
