Vol. 40 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salmon Ladder at Ennistymon Falls.

(An Clár) asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state whether representations have been made by the residents of Ennistymon and district, in respect of the necessity of constructing a salmon ladder at the Ennistymon Falls, with a view to the development of fishing in that district.

Representations by persons in the district mentioned have been made to me on this subject, which is primarily a matter for the Limerick Board of Conservators of Fisheries.

Mr. P. Hogan

Is the Minister prepared to give any help in view of the possibilities of fishery development in the district?

It depends a good deal. The development there would primarily improve private fisheries; they are private waters. But if a case could be made that the rights of public fisheries were to be improved by any works done there by the Department, then the Department might be prepared to consider a small grant.
