Vol. 40 No. 16

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Importation of Implements.

Mr. Boland (for Mr. MacEntee)

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the increased importation of foreign manufactured spades, shovels, picks, pick-axes and similar implements which has lately arisen, and which is gravely menacing the position of those engaged in Dublin and elsewhere in Saorstát Eireann in the manufacture of these articles, he will institute an inquiry into the matter with a view to the application of the provisions of the Customs Duties (Provisional Imposition) Act, 1931, if necessary.

Official stastics do not show any increased importation of foreign manufactured spades, shovels, picks, pick-axes and similar implements as having lately arisen. The circumstances therefore do not justify the proposed enquiry.
