Vol. 40 No. 16

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquistion of Bogs in Kildare.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries to state the names and description of the lands in Co. Kildare containing bogs which the Land Commission are in process of acquiring or have recently acquired, and if he will say when it is proposed to undertake the necessary improvements in the bogs acquired.

The Land Commission have recently acquired bogs on the following estates, namely: 1,505a. 0r. 30p. on the townlands of Newtownbirt, Kilberry, Cloney and Sheeaun on the Verschoyle estate; 213a. 2r. 0p. on the townland of Oldcourt on the Bourke Borrowes Estate; 488a. 3r. 17p. on the townland of Kilkeackin on the Murphy Estate; 92a. 2r. 10p. on the townlands of Gorduff, Blackwood and Coolcarragh on the Wright Estate; 372a. 2r. 39p. on the townland of Lattensbog on the Mansfield Estate; and 477a. 1r. 39p. on the townlands of Clongorey, Barrettstown and Tankardstown on the Kelly Estate. Schemes for all these Estates are in course of preparation, and they will provide for any necessary expenditure for roads and drainage.

In view of the unemployment in these districts at the present time will not the Parliamentary Secretary see that these schemes should be put in operation as quickly as possible?

I could not say when the schemes will be put in operation.
