Vol. 40 No. 21

Progress of Bills.

Can the President say if it is his intention to take all stages of the Bills on the Order Paper before the Christmas adjournment? Can he also say what is the delay in circulating the Government amendments to the Road Traffic Bill that were promised by the Minister for Local Government and Public Health?

I cannot answer the first question, and as regards the second I understand 120 amendments will be circulated to-day. Does that number satisfy the Deputy?

Is that all?

I think it will not exhaust the list, but it will be enough to go on with.

When is it intended to take the Report Stage of the Road Traffic Bill?

Possibly this day week.

Mr. Hogan

The President has not referred to the Shannon Fisheries Bill to which I referred previously, which has not yet been introduced, and which he has given no reasons for not introducing.

I could astonish the Deputy with the number of reasons.

Mr. Hogan

Forty men are unemployed now, and for three months nothing has been done to have them re-employed.

Will the President tell us when the Intoxicating Liquor Bill will be taken?

March the 16th.

When does the President propose to introduce the Courts of Justice (Amendment) Bill?

Not before Christmas I think.

Will the President give an indication if we are to have the Christmas adjournment this week or next week?

Before Christmas.

Is it intended to take the amendments that were introduced in the Town Tenants Bill by the Seanad before the Adjournment?

We have not got them yet.

I got them by post this morning.

They have been circulated for the Seanad.

The Town Tenants Bill has not yet left the Seanad. The Fifth Stage is on there to-day.

If we assume that the Fifth Stage will be passed in the Seanad to-day is it intended to bring the amendments before the Dáil before the Adjournment?

There are two questions there. We will see what we will do when we get them.

Mr. O'Connell

Why are the amendments circulated if the Bill has not yet left the Seanad?

The colour of the amendment paper in the Deputy's hand answers that question.
