Vol. 40 No. 24

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballinskelligs Pier.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether, in view of the fact that the Kerry County Council has not taken steps to repair the old pier at Ballinskelligs, Co. Kerry, the Minister will take action to provide shelter and landing facilities for the fishing boats in the locality by either repairing this pier and extending it, or by some other means.

There is good shelter for fishing boats at the pier built at the cost of the State in 1922 on a site close to the old pier.

Mr. O'Reilly

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the place where the new pier is built is an island, owing to the fact that the other pier was not repaired? The pier was in a peninsula, but it is now on an island, and there is no use bringing boats there when the fishermen cannot get out of it.

The Department has been urging the county council to deal with the road for a considerable time past.

Mr. O'Reilly

No use can be made of the new pier because it is on an island. The only alternative is to repair the old pier.
