Vol. 40 No. 24

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Relief of Congestion (Co. Mayo).

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state when the Irish Land Commission intend to take steps to relieve the acute congestion that exists on the Valentine J. Blake Estate, the Neale district, Co. Mayo; will he state also if it is intended by the Land Commission to distribute immediately the Islandmore Farm, recently acquired by them, amongst the uneconomic holders in the area, particularly the following:— Thomas Burke, R.O. Nos. (B. 1278/4), Michael Doherty (B. 1278/1), Thomas Gannon (B. 1278/6), John Doherty (B. 1278/3), John Shaughnessy (B. 1278/11), Thomas Malley (B. 1278/2), Patrick McTigue (B. 1278/9), John Malley (B. 1278/4), Patrick Sweeney, junr. (B. 1278/10), Michael Doherty (Michael) (B. 1278/7), Michael Doherty (B. 1278/17), John Doherty, junr. (B. 1278/12).

I explained the position with regard to the Valentine Blake Estate in my reply to the Deputy's question of the 16th July last. Since then the estate has vested in the Land Commission under the Land Act, 1931, and the question of the relief of the congestion thereon will be dealt with as soon as possible.

I sent on some names to the Parliamentary Secretary.

I admit that the Deputy sent on the names. These are all subtenants, and naturally the sub-tenancies will have to be disposed of before we can deal with the question of relieving congestion.
