Vol. 40 No. 24

Road Traffic Bill, 1931.

I should like to ask the Minister for Local Government what is the position with regard to the Road Traffic Bill. Is it intended to carry forward the existing Bill to the next Session or to introduce a new Bill embodying the amendments which will be circulated, or is it intended not to go on with the legislation at all?

The Bill is at present before the House and will be considered on 10th February next, or whatever date is decided on when the House meets on that date. The position with regard to it is that I undertook to have the amendments in the hands of Deputies, following on our discussion in Committee, at least a week before taking the Report Stage. There are one or two aspects of the insurance section in the measure, that is Part V, in respect of which I was not able to have the amendments prepared before the Transport Bill reached the stage to which it came preparatory to introduction in the Dáil. I hope within the next few days to have the amendments to the insurance section circulated and then the House will deal with the Bill in the ordinary way on 10th February.

That is the existing Bill?

When will the amendments be circulated?

As soon as I can, but at any rate before 1st January.

Before 10th February?
