Vol. 40 No. 24

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Copponey Lake (Cavan).

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give a grant for the completion of the drainage of Copponey Lake, Ardamagh, Ballyhaise, out of the relief money recently voted.

Mr. Bourke

In June, 1930, the Commissioners of Public Works rejected the petition under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, in this case, as the proposal was found to be very uneconomic and in any event too small to warrant the application of the Act. It was pointed out to the Cavan County Council that the petitioners could, if they so desired, proceed by petition under the 1928 Act for the execution of a minor drainage scheme, but the Commissioners have not been informed as to whether any further action was taken in the matter.

In the circumstances and in the absence of further information, the case does not appear to merit the allocation of portion of the Relief Fund. However, if sufficient reasons can be advanced, representations should be made by the ordinary official channels for consideration.
