Vol. 41 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tariff on Cement.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he intends to take any steps with a view to securing the manufacture of cement within the Saorstát; whether it is proposed to impose a tariff on imported cement, and, in the event of a cement factory being established, whether preference will be given to that proposed to be established in the vicinity of Skerries.

It is intended to take such measures as may be necessary to secure the manufacture of cement in the Saorstát and those measures, when determined on, will duly be announced to the Dáil. It is clearly undesirable for me to anticipate whether they will or will not include a tariff on imported cement.

I am not aware of any reason why one possible location for a factory should be given preference over all others.
