Vol. 41 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Allotment of Land to Labourers.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether, in the event of migration schemes being carried out, a labourer would receive consideration under present practice in the allotment of lands, and, if not, if steps will be taken to permit of allotment in such cases.

Estates acquired by the Land Commission under the provisions of the Land Act, 1923—whether by exchange or purchase—are divided in accordance with the provisions of Section 31 of the said Act. Labourers are not precluded from obtaining allotments and, as a matter of fact, the Land Commission have already given parcels to labourers and will continue to do so in cases where local congestion and other circumstances permit.
