Vol. 41 No. 6

Written Answers. - Drainage of the Robe.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the Commissioners of Public Works submitted proposals to the Mayo County Council for the drainage of the River Robe and tributaries in April, 1928; that the Commissioners were notified of the Council's concurrence in September, 1928, when the necessary statutory resolutions and guarantee required by the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, were passed by the Council and submitted to the Commissioners; that a detailed engineering survey of the whole district, a valuation of affected lands and an assessment of the estimated increase in value for each individual holding was made and report submitted to the Commissioners by their engineers in February, 1930; and if he will now state what steps have been taken by the Commissioners since 1930 to have the drainage of that river and tributaries carried out.

The figures relative to the River Robe proposed Drainage Scheme put before the Mayo County Council by the Commissioners of Public Works in April, 1928, were of a purely provisional nature, pending the carrying out of a detailed investigation. Since the Commissioners received their Engineer's report in February, 1930, they had a detailed valuation made of the district, which was received in November, 1930, but it was subsequently found that further inspections by both Engineers and Valuers were necessary in order to devise the most satisfactory scheme possible. These investigations are not yet concluded.
