Vol. 41 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Harbour Improvements at Burtonport.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state when he proposes completing the harbour improvements at Burtonport, Co. Donegal; if in view of the urgent necessity for providing employment in Burtonport, Co. Donegal, he will see that the span from the mainland to the pierhead will be piled in accordance with the plans and specifications proposed by the Board of Works engineers.

The piling mentioned in the question has reference to the original (1914) proposal to build a ferro-concrete pier at Burtonport. The head of this pier was built before the works under the original scheme were suspended in 1920. It was found in 1924 that the pier work could not be carried out with the funds available, and after consultation with the local representatives a modified scheme of improvements was agreed upon which did not include the pier work referred to.

The modified scheme has been completed, and no other works are at present under consideration.
