Vol. 41 No. 9

Private Notice Question. - The Referendum.

asked the President whether it is his intention to introduce legislation during the present session for the purpose of setting up the necessary machinery for a referendum and for which purpose provision was made in Articles 47 and 48 of the Constitution as originally enacted.

The Executive Council has not yet considered this matter, and in view of the fact that many more urgent matters await attention, it is improbable that it will be considered during the present session.

Is it the intention of the President and the Executive Council to give effect to the promises made in this connection on behalf of the Fianna Fáil Party by the Minister for Industry and Commerce during the recent General Election?

Any promises that have been made on behalf of the Party by responsible members will be honoured.
