Vol. 41 No. 9

In Committee on Finance. - Financial Resolutions—Customs.

I move:

That the Customs Duties (Flowers) (Provisional Imposition) Order, 1932, which was made on the 19th day of March, 1932, by the Executive Council under Section 1 of the Customs Duties (Provisional Imposition) Act, 1931 (No. 38 of 1931), and a copy of which was laid on the table of Dáil Eireann on the 20th day of April, 1932, be approved.

Motion agreed to.

I move:

That the Customs Duties (Potatoes) (Provisional Imposition) Order, 1932, which was made on the 12th day of April, 1932, by the Executive Council under Section 1 of the Customs Duties (Provisional Imposition) Act, 1931 (No. 38 of 1931), and a copy of which was laid on the table of Dáil Eireann on the 27th day of April, 1932, be approved.

Has the Minister for Finance made any arrangements whereby the farmers in Northern Ireland, living along the Border, can import potatoes to Dundalk? I might remind the Minister that the existing position gives rise to a great deal of annoyance and trouble and reacts very unfavourably on the trade of Dundalk and also on many towns in Co. Monaghan. Will the Minister endeavour to extend facilities in the near future so that the farmers can get in their potatoes to Dundalk?

So far as citizens on this side of the Border are concerned, I shall endeavour to see that as little inconvenience as possible is caused. I am asking the Revenue Commissioners to see what amendment can be made so as to meet the people concerned.

Motion agreed to.
