Vol. 41 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Working of Land Act, 1931, in Congested Areas.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state the total number of congested districts holdings gazetted and put on a purchase annuity basis to date under Section 23 of the Land Act, 1931, and the number of holdings still to be gazetted under this section.

Under Section 23 of the Land Act, 1931, the Land Commission have published to date lists of 19,562 congested districts holdings. Some 2,800 congested districts holdings remain to be listed and will be dealt with as soon as difficulties in regard to them have been settled. From the gale-day next after the date of the publication of such lists, the tenants named therein are to pay an annual sum equal to the purchase annuity specified in the list, and on the making of subsequent vesting orders payments on foot of these sums are treated as purchase annuities.
