Vol. 42 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Carndonagh-Buncrana Telephone Calls.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if telephone calls from Carndonagh to Buncrana go through the Derry Exchange notwithstanding the fact that a direct line or wire connects both towns; and, if so, whether arrangements will be made by which telephonic communications passing between Donegal towns will not have to pass through the Derry City Exchange.

Owing to a misunderstanding, instructions were issued for telephone calls to be routed via Derry. These were immediately corrected, as they were not in conformity with the Department's policy of confining Saorstát traffic within the area of An Saorstát. The arrangement which has been operative for some months past under which telephone calls pass direct between Carndonagh and Buncrana instead of Derry is now permanent and will not be disturbed.
