Vol. 42 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Customs Duty on Fishing Tackle.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that as a result of the customs duty on fishing hooks, gut and other raw material connected with the manufacture of fishing tackle (including trout and salmon flies), Saorstát manufacturers engaged in such manufacture will not be able to compete with cross-Channel firms supplying these goods unless the component parts of such accessories are exempt from payment of duty and if steps will be taken by him to have the necessary amendments made.

Steps are being taken to have the component parts of appliances, apparatus and requisites for sports and games exempted from the duty chargeable on such appliances. In the meantime effect is being given by the Revenue Commissioners to this intention.
