Vol. 42 No. 9

Customs Duties (Meat and Poultry) (Provisional Imposition) Order. - Dublin and Blessington Steam Tramway (Abandonment) Bill, 1932—Report and Fifth Stages.

I move:—

In page 13, Second Schedule, paragraph 5 (a), line 1, to delete the words "civil strife" and substitute the word "service."

The object of the amendment is to meet the amendment suggested by Deputy Mulcahy on the Committee Stage of the Bill.

Amendment put and agreed to.
Question —"That the Bill, as amended, be received for final consideration "—put and agreed to.

Has the Minister any information as to whether there is actually anybody on the railway affected by the provision we were discussing the other day?

There is one. None of the employees had National Army service, but one had British Army service.

As far as the matter we were discussing the other day— the opposing forces in the civil war or people who were out in 1916—not a single person in the railway was involved on either side.

What is the Deputy making a noise about?

What the Deputy said was correct but, as Deputy Corry asked, what is the Deputy making a noise about?

The question arose as to what issue was brought into the Blessington Tramway Bill.

The Deputy must remember that this Bill was found in my Department when I went in there. I found provisions in it which, under circumstances now ascertained, should not have been there, but that were put there for the purpose of ensuring that the principle of differentiation against one section engaged in the civil war should be maintained. I move that the Bill do now pass. It is necessary that it should become law by the 23rd June, if the Appointed Day is to be fixed for 1st July. Otherwise, it will be delayed six months.

Question put and agreed to.
Bill ordered to be sent to the Seanad.
