Vol. 44 No. 1

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take the business to-day as set out on the Order Paper. I propose to move the adjournment of the House at 8 p.m. in order to make a statement, and to give an opportunity for discussion, on the recent negotiations.

What is the proposal with regard to Private Deputies' Business?

I propose to take Private Deputies' time for that purpose.

Will the President indicate how long it will take to make the statement?

I expect it will not occupy more than half-an-hour. The remainder of the time can be devoted to discussion, if the House so wishes.

Perhaps the President will tell the House when he proposes to permit Private Deputies' Business to be proceeded with?

Obviously not to-day.

Will the discussion on the statement that is to be made this evening be allowed to stand over until to-morrow?

It is proposed to finish the discussion on the statement this evening.

Are we to take it, then, that the discussion is to be confined to whatever statements are made by the President and to whatever other statements can be got in between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.?

Between 8 p.m. and 10.30 p.m.

That is what we propose.

The President considers that period sufficient for a discussion on the announcement that will be made to-night?

I think so.

Will there be an opportunity given for a discussion on any motion that may be moved relative to this matter?

When we see the motion we will be prepared to consider that.

Will the statement that is to be made to-night be confined merely to the recent negotiations, or are we to get history as well and even a forecast of the future?

I think the discussion to-night ought naturally to be confined to what would ordinarily arise out of the statement that will be made.

That will necessarily lead to a discussion on the future of the country as a result of the breakdown of the negotiations.

Or a discussion on the 1923 Agreement.

If we table a motion dealing with this matter, will an opportunity be afforded to-morrow for a discussion upon that motion?

When we see the motion we will consider that matter.
