Vol. 44 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bounty on Pork.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether the bounty on pork is being paid to Derry curers direct, and not to Donegal farmers, and, if so, if he will state the reasons why.

For the purpose of administering the scheme of bounties for pig products, the bounty is payable only to persons or firms recognised by the Department as exporters or buyers of such products from the Saorstát. It would not be possible, owing to administrative difficulties, to arrange for the payment of the bounty direct to the pig producer. The buyers have undertaken that the prices paid by them will reflect the bounty received.

Will the Minister say how Derry curers can be classed as exporters from the Free State?

That is the definition I got.

Do you accept it?

Does the Minister contend that he can pay this bounty to persons representing themselves as exporters from the Irish Free State who are, in fact, resident in the Six Counties?
