Vol. 44 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Court Stenographers.

asked the Minister for Justice whether it is proposed to appoint girl stenographers to take verbatim reports of the evidence in trials for immoral and unnatural offences, and, if not, what arrangement he proposes to make for the taking of evidence in such cases if girls are appointed as official stenographers in the courts.

The reply to the first part of the question is in the negative. The second part of the question is hypothetical, but I may assure the Deputy, generally, that I certainly do not propose, in any contingency to employ girls to report indecent cases in the Criminal Courts nor can I imagine any responsible person contemplating such a policy.
