Vol. 44 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Collection of Income Tax Arrears.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (1) if forms to the number anticipated have been filled up and forwarded to the Revenue Commissioners under the Special Collection of Income Tax (Arrears) procedure and (2) if his expectation of securing in this way £350,000 in this financial year is likely to be realised.

With regard to the first part of the question the concession outlined in my Budget Speech has been taken advantage of by a large number of taxpayers who have duly completed the form issued by the Revenue Commissioners. With regard to the second part, as the preparation and examination of the accounts in the large number of cases involved is only in the initial stage, it would be impossible at present to state definitely whether the estimate of £350,000 will be realised.
