Vol. 44 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Provision of Capital.

asked the President whether he is aware that the Minister for Education, speaking at Bray on October 25th, as reported in the Press, announced that, if capital is not forthcoming for the expansion of industry, it might be necessary for the State to take further action; whether this announcement has the sanction of the Executive Council, and what is the nature of the action contemplated by the Government in the event referred to.

The Deputy must know that the sanction of the Executive Council is not necessary for statements of such a purely hypothetical character. I do not propose to state what course the Government would adopt in an eventuality which may never occur.

Will the President take steps to restrain his colleagues from making statements of a vague and misleading character that might operate to scare away capital?

My view is that it is the Deputy's questions that are of a misleading character.
