Vol. 44 No. 8

Order of Business.

We propose to proceed with the Estimates.

Before proceeding with the Estimates, I should like to know whether the President can give any good reason as to why the remaining stages of the Control of Prices Bill are being held up? It was quite evident to me during the discussions that all Parties were prepared to give the necessary support to have the Bill passed as quickly as possible.

As the Deputy is aware, the Vote on Account will expire on the 30th of this month and it is necessary to have the Estimates in the Appropriation Bill through the House by the 9th in order that the Seanad may have time for the statutory consideration of the Bill. It has been arranged with the Opposition, I understand, that by the 9th we can have them through and that is the only reason the Prices Bill is not being proceeded with.
