Vol. 44 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Bounties on Manufactured Goods.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in the event of Saorstát manufactured woollens, wearing apparel and other goods becoming subject to a duty of customs on entry to Great Britain, he will have refunded the amount of such duty to manufacturers and exporters who have already contracted to supply such goods to purchasers in Great Britain; and if he will consider the necessity of applying to other manufacturers and exporters of manufactured goods a scheme similar to that now operating in regard to cattle exports.

It is intended to pay out of the Emergency Fund to exporters of certain manufactured goods the amount of duty paid by them on such goods on entry into the United Kingdom.

Particulars of the classes of goods to which this arrangement will apply will be announced in the course of a few days.

In order to simplify matters, would the Minister arrange that the bounty be paid direct to the British Customs Authorities?
