Vol. 44 No. 9

Vote No. 64.—Army.

I move:—

Go ndeontar suim ná raghaidh thar £439,478 chun slánuithe na suime is gá chun íoctha an Mhuirir a thiocfaidh chun bheith iníoctha i rith na bliana dar críoch an 31adh lá de Mhárta, 1933, chun Costas an Airm (maraon le Cúltaca an Airm), agus Costaisí i dtaobh an Achta Bhunreachta (Leasú Uimh. 17), 1931.

That a sum not exceeding £439,478 be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1933, for the cost of the Army (including Army Reserve), and Expenses in connection with the Constitution (Amendment No. 17) Act, 1931.

Vote put and agreed to.

May I ask the Minister a question? I want to raise a matter that I have raised on at least three or four occasions.

A question? The Vote has already been agreed to.

The question I want to ask is, is he making any provision even in his new Bill for a system of deferred pay for private soldiers of the National Army in order that they may have some small sum of money to receive on leaving the Army?

That is a question of legislation that will come up next week on the new Bill.

Is he providing for soldiers in this way? Surely the Minister must know something about his Bill.

Are soldiers provided for by way of pensions or deferred pay so that they may have something when they come out of the Army?

The Deputy will see the new Bill. In it will be provisions for officers and men of long service, regular soldiers who have served a number of years.
