Vol. 44 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New Posts under Revenue Commissioners.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total number of new posts under the Revenue Commissioners, sanctioned since 9th March last, and if he will state what will be the annual cost of such new posts taking salaries in all instances at the mean of the scale.

I thought it advisable to give a rather detailed answer to the question and I propose to have it circulated.

Following is the answer:

The total number of new posts authorised for the Offices of the Revenue Commissioners on their request and recommendation since 9th March last is 232, as follows:—

1 Principal Clerkship.

2 Assistant Principal Clerkships.

4 Inspectors of Taxes Higher Grade.

2 Controlling Grade Officers of Customs and Excise.

6 Surveyors of Customs and Excise.

4 Higher Executive Officers.

2 Assistant Inspectors of Taxes.

8 Junior Executive Officers.

53 Officers of Customs and Excise.

1 Staff Officer, Customs and Excise.

5 Minor Staff Officers.

76 Clerical Officers.

19 Writing Assistants.

2 Shorthand-Typists.

12 Typists.

25 Temporary Preventive Men.

1 Paper-keeper.

2 Messengers.

1 Male Cleaner.

6 Female Cleaners.

Twelve of the new posts are in the Offices of the Chief Inspector of Taxes and the Special Commissioners for Income Tax. The remaining posts have been authorised in consequence of additional work arising from recent changes in the customs tariff. The approximate annual cost, taking salaries at the mean of the scale, will be £61,000.
