Vol. 44 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Minister Institute Contract.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that for many years a Cork firm supplied the Munster Institute, Cork, with bacon and hams by contract, and that recently the order for these commodities was given to a Dublin firm, and, if so, if he will state the reasons why the last order was placed in Dublin, and, also, whether it is the policy to have purchases for provincial Institutes under the control of his Department centralised in Dublin.

The contract in question was, in accordance with the normal procedure, placed with the firm which submitted the lowest tender, on the recommendation of the sub-committee of the Government Contracts Committee, which deals with the question of food-stuffs for State Services. The reply to the concluding portion of the question is in the negative.
