Vol. 44 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Manor Street (Dublin) Gárda Barracks.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he has in contemplation the closing down of the Manor Street, Dublin, Gárda Barracks, which is in close proximity to the cattle market, and, if so, if before coming to a final decision in the matter he will take into consideration (1) the uneasiness which the reported closing down has occasioned to the residents and business people of the district, and (2) the loss of security and protection which the residents and the people attending the market have hitherto enjoyed.

It has been decided to close the barrack at Manor Street, Dublin. This decision does not furnish any ground for uneasiness amongst the residents or business people of the district, and will in no way diminish the security and protection hitherto afforded to these people. The premises in question were never used as a station proper, but were utilised solely to provide sleeping and messing accommodation for unmarried members of the force attached to the Bridewell Station. This arrangement is no longer necessary, and the closing of the barrack will release three or four men for ordinary outdoor police duties in the district.
