Vol. 44 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Saorstát Government and United Kingdom.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether any agreement on any matter has been arrived at between the Saorstát Government or any Department thereof and the Government of the United Kingdom or any Department thereof since the beginning of the present session.

The answer is in the negative.

Arising out of the President's reply, would he state whether there is any general understanding, or agreement, between this Government and the Government of Great Britain to carry out all previous arrangements arrived at by his predecessors, except such as are publicly repudiated? Are all other agreements to be carried out continuously?

I am not quite sure I see the point of the Deputy's question. I am afraid he will have to be more explicit.

As we are all aware, a great number of agreements have been made with the British Government by the President's predecessors, apart from the ones in dispute at the present time. Is there a general agreement with the British Government to carry out all other agreements, irrespective of the agreements of his predecessors which are now the subject of discussion?

Would the Deputy indicate an example?

The Passport requirements for aliens, the agreement in regard to double income tax, and so forth.

All these are being continued as usual.
