Vol. 44 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Salmon Fishermen.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he is prepared to allocate a grant towards the construction of a boat slip at Rathcoursey, Co. Cork, for the convenience and shelter of the boats of salmon fishermen, as a grant for this work has been recommended by the Sea Fisheries Association.

I am advised that safe anchorage for boats is available within mile of the village of Rathcoursey, and that the construction of the slip or pier suggested would cost a sum out of proportion to any benefit to be derived from it. I am unable, therefore, to recommend a grant towards the cost of the work. I have not received any such recommendation from the Sea Fisheries Association as is mentioned.

Would the Minister say where this anchorage is, as I am unaware of it? Is he aware that fishermen have to get out of their boats and wade to the shore, and, then, try and drag their boats in? The Sea Fisheries Association assured me that they have made recommendations.

If the Deputy will put down another question I will have it investigated.
