Vol. 44 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Duties on Agricultural Implements.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he can state how much extra employment, if any, has been created in the three Wexford foundries and agricultural implement factories as a result of the import duties on agricultural implements; if he can state the number of workers employed (a) at the date of the imposition of the said duties, (b) at the present time; stating for each date the number of skilled workers, unskilled workers and apprentices employed at each date; whether any of the Wexford agricultural implement factories are still closed down and what steps the Government propose to take to provide suitable occupation for any workers that have suffered loss of employment in this industry in Wexford.

Returns of employment in the protected industries are collected as for the first week in March and September respectively. These returns are not yet complete but will be on the Table of the House at the earliest practicable moment. I should add that according to my information all of the Wexford agricultural implement factories are working.
