Vol. 45 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Appeals for Remission of Dance Tax.

asked the Minister for Finance whether any decision has yet been arrived at with reference to the appeals for the remission of the dance tax; whether he is aware that, for the past six weeks, the attendance and receipts at the various public halls have dropped 40 per cent. compared with the same period of last year, and also that the employment given by the proprietors of these hotels, restaurants, public halls, etc., has dropped 33 per cent. compared with the same period last year.

No decision has yet been arrived at with reference to the proposals for the remission or revision of the entertainments duty on dances. I have no information regarding the matters mentioned in the latter part of the Deputy's question, but I shall be glad to be furnished with any information which interested parties are in a position to supply to enable me to consider the matter. As the Deputy will appreciate, any modification of the duty would require legislation.
