Vol. 45 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Offaly Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if the Land Commission intend to acquire the estates of the late George Grange, Offaly, and the Jennings Estate, Offaly, and, if so, when.

The Land Commission have gazetted the lands of Granure and Ballymacrossan, the property of George Grange, comprising some 403 acres, with a view to their acquisition. The owner objected to the acquisition of these lands by the Land Commission, and his objection was heard by the Commissioners, judgment being reserved.

An offer was made to Miss Jennings for the purchase of 176 acres of the lands of Granure and Gorteenard and refused by her. These lands were subsequently gazetted under the provision of Section 24 (3) of the Land Act, 1923, with a view to their acquisition. The owner's objection to the acquisition of the lands was partly disallowed by the Land Commission, but she appealed to the Judicial Commissioner and her appeal is pending for hearing.
