Vol. 46 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hospital Accommodation for Offaly.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the amounts set aside for the provision of modern county and district hospital accommodation for County Offaly, and if he can now state what steps he has already taken or proposes to take to get the work of erecting the county and district hospitals concerned undertaken without delay.

(1) No particular amount has been allocated. It was intended to make a grant amounting to two-thirds the cost of the approved works.

(2) The Board have been written to on several occasions and pressed to proceed with the building of the hospital on a site selected by them on the 28th July, 1931, and approved by the Department on the 2nd October, 1931.

(3) The responsibility for the position disclosed rests entirely with the local authority, and it should not be overlooked that the intention to offer financial assistance cannot be maintained indefinitely if the present circumstances persist.
