Vol. 46 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Differentiation in Classes of Unemployed.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is now in a position to differentiate, in his weekly statement of the number of persons registered as unemployed, between the different classes of persons registering who have in fact some employment and the different classes who have not.

Persons who register for employment at local offices of my Department may be regarded as unemployed though the need for employment varies in each case. Amongst those registered for employment are persons in receipt of various types of pensions or small incomes, persons having small part-time agencies or businesses, and persons owning or residing on farms who are desirous of obtaining either whole-time or part-time or seasonal employment. It would not be practicable to have the weekly statements of the numbers of persons registered as unemployed analysed according to their varying circumstances. I am, however, having prepared an analysis showing the persons registered as unemployed on 16th January, 1933, in categories according to their means and burdens.
