Vol. 46 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bounty on Salmon.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he is prepared to recommend to the Minister for Finance that a bounty should be paid to those who are engaged in salmon fishing, to compensate them for the losses sustained in consequence of the application of tariffs on fish exported from this country to Britain.

I am not at present prepared to make the recommendation suggested, but I am keeping the position under close observation.

Arising out of the Parliamentary Secretary's reply, will he keep the lobster fishing under similar close observation until the time comes for granting a bounty?

And what about herring and fishing generally?

Does the Minister not admit that a certain amount of hardship is being suffered by these men at the moment, and that they are deserving of special consideration?
